Genoa is a city surrounded by the charm of history, art and architecture, a destination full of tourist attractions to visit: monuments, museums, churches and historic places.
In the heart of the city is the sixteenth-century Porto Antico, the largest square on the Mediterranean, redesigned by the famous architect Renzo Piano in 1992 and one of the city's main attractions. The Porto Antico is an open space where you can walk and appreciate the enchanting view of the sea. A perfect destination for the whole family, not far from the Porto Antico, is the Aquarium of Genoa, the largest aquarium in Europe, famous for the incredible display of aquatic biodiversity: tropical fish, jellyfish, amphibians, dolphins, sharks, seals, manatees, turtles and numerous fish species.
For your visit to Genoa, an unmissable stop is the Palazzo Ducale, a splendid and imposing palace, the historic residence of the Doges of Genoa, today one of the symbols of the city and which houses art collections in its large halls , frescoes, paintings and ancient artefacts linked to the history of Genoa. Another noteworthy museum is the Villa Croce Museum of Contemporary Art which houses an art collection in which the works of some of the most famous Italian and international contemporary artists are exhibited including Fontana, Munari, Fontana, Jasper Johns Melotti, Delaunay.
Other unmissable jewels during your trip to discover Liguria are the churches and monuments of Genoa such as: the Cathedral of San Lorenzo, an example of Gothic architecture; the church of Santa Maria di Castello, an example of Romanesque art, or Piazza De Ferrari, a square surrounded by large buildings and monuments: the monument dedicated to Garibaldi, the Palazzo della Borsa and the enchanting fountain symbol of the city which is located right at the centre of the square.
